Comedy

Omid Djalili – Iranalamadingdong at Bolton Albert Halls
Thursday 13 November
He’s back on tour with a new show, following a sell-out four week West-End residency and a sold-out season at the Edinburgh Festival. A firm favourite with his legendary performances, Omid’s stand-up awards include the Time Out Award and EMMA Award for Best Stand Up.

Akram Khan: One side to the other at The Lowry
Wednesday 15 November – Sunday 01 February 2015
Celebrated dancer and choreographer, Akram Khan, curates a visual art exhibition for the first time in his career, bringing together elements of performance and live installation work alongside sculpture, painting and film.

The Sensory War 1914-2014 at Manchester Art Gallery
Saturday 11 October – Sunday 22 February 2015
The show examines how artists from 1914 onwards depicted the devastating impact of new military technologies utilised in a century of conflict beginning with the First World War.

Festivals

The Whisky Sessions at Victoria Warehouse
Friday 21 November – Saturday 22 November
This new two day music and whisky festival will create the opportunity for music lovers to taste a range of world class whiskies, while enjoying a line-up of over 20 bands including legendary local acts I Am Kloot, Gomez and Badly Drawn Boy.

Big Imaginations Family Arts Festival
Thursday 16 October – Sunday 30 November
A celebration of children’s theatre at Z-arts in Hulme and The Edge in Chorlton. Pop along with the family and celebrate the magic of children’s theatre as they party on the moon, brave highseas adventure and sing along to catchy toe tapping numbers.

Music

Vevo Halloween Party at Victoria Warehouse
Saturday 01 November
Vevo is celebrating Halloween in style once again with a thrilling, immersive live concert experience with a theme of ‘survivors versus zombies,’ at the iconic Victoria Warehouse. The star studded event will include live performances from Ella Eyre, Gorgon City and Sam Smith.

Halle Pops: The Halle’s Classical Greats: Esther Yoo at Bridgewater Hall
Saturday 22 November
Recently named a BBC New Generation Artist, Esther Yoo first came to international attention in 2010 when, aged 16, she became the youngest prize winner of the 10th International Sibelius Violin Competition.

Outdoors

Manchester Christmas Markets
Friday 14 November – Sunday 21 December
Soak up the festive atmosphere with a stroll through Manchester’s world famous Christmas markets. The markets comprise over 300 beautifully festooned wooden stalls and are a fantastic place to shop for gifts and indulge in an array of mouth-watering delicacies from across Europe.

Manchester Christmas Lights Switch On
Friday 07 November
An evening of high-energy entertainment in front of an audience of thousands is in store, as Manchester’s spectacular Christmas Lights switch on show will once again light up Albert Square, with the biggest Christmas party in the North West.

Reindeer Parade in Oldham Town Centre
Saturday 08 November
Meet Santa and his furry friends as they journey through town. Starting from Clegg Street at 12.45pm, the reindeers will make their way up High Street, Lord Street, Albion Street and Henshaw Street before resting outside the Shopping Centre around 1.15pm.

Edward Scissorhands at The Lowry
Tuesday 25 – Saturday 29 November
Matthew Bourne’s magical dance production of Edward Scissorhands returns for a whole new generation of dance lovers and theatregoers.

Insomnia at HOME
Thursday 06 – Friday 07 November 
Insomnia weaves strands of physical and musical storytelling leaving it up to the audience to decipher the actions and inventions, a journey through styles and genres of music, dance and theatre.

The Russian State Ballet and Opera House presents: Swan Lake at Stockport Plaza
Tuesday 18 November
With instantly recognisable music and a timeless story of good against evil, Swan Lake is the greatest of Romantic ballets in this family orientated ballet featuring an impressive cast and live orchestra.

Sport

The Manchester Derby at The Etihad Stadium
Sunday 02 November
With Chelsea opening up a six point lead over city and united down in eighth this crunch game could not have more riding on it. Both teams will be determined to win and with the attacking talent on show there is no doubt goals will be scored. The city will be awash with red and blue until the big kick-off at 13:30.

Tour of the month

The Mad Inventors of Manchester
Saturday 01 November
A special city walk in association with Manchester Science Festival, looking in to the brainstormed boffins who moulded modern Manchester.

New Kid on the Block

Sakana
A huge steel maple tree forms the spectacular centrepiece of glitzy new Japanese bar and restaurant that is due to open at the start of the month in Manchester city centre.
