3 ideas for this weekend in Manchester (13 – 15 September, 2013)

robinsonsLooking for some weekend entertainment? Look no further, here’s our top 3 suggestions for what to get up, plus some additional highlights from our social media friends.

  • Ramsbottom Festival kicks off 3 packed days of great entertainment today, all set in the quaint Bury town of Ramsbottom, surrounded by rolling hills in a picturesque landscape. The festival promises to deliver a quality, eclectic mix of established international musicians, emerging artists and DJs along with activities for all ages including craft and music workshops, a real ale tent and a fine selection of scrumptious food.
  • On Saturday head over to Stockport and take a self-guided tour of the Historic Quarter, where a selection of venues are hosting special events throughout the day to showcase the story of Stockport’s past. With everything from free guided tours and pie making demos to free beer and cheese samples it would be rude not to check it out.
  • Fancy a mooch amongst some of the tastiest and quirkiest handmade products on offer across our region? Head to the Altrincham Vintage, Handmade & Producers’ Market on Sunday. This is a great opportunity to meet some of the region’s most talented craft makers and producers while sampling some of their products.

Avoid going into Manchester in the evening. I recently travelled there for a meal in the company of a recovering stroke victim. We had to park near the venue because of his mobility problems, but we were penalised for arriving back 5 minutes late at 21.32 on a Saturday night, despite filling the meter for the maximum 4 hours allowed. The council have a greed that is reflected by employing parking wardens that late on a summer Saturday evening to penalise visitors. I would advise you to seek a restaurant in Cheshire, or some other location, rather that give into the greed of a council who have nothing but contempt for the visitor. I appealed, but they ignored it, despite claiming they had sympathy with me; they didn’t.
